As your constituent, I’m writing today to urge you to cosponsor and support H.R. 895–the Combating Organized Retail Crime Act.
Organized retail crime has been growing in the past few years. According to a report by the National Retail Federation (NRF), retail crime accounted for $112.1 billion in industry losses in the US last year, up 19.4% from $93.9 billion in 2021.
And guess who ends up paying for it? People like me - the average, law-abiding shopper in your district and others around the country just like me.
The Combating Organized Retail Crime Act (HR 895) will fight this type of criminal activity and hold retail criminals accountable for their actions.
Organized retail crime has made shopping much more difficult for people like me. Products are locked away and costs are rising across the board!
This act would be incredibly beneficial, directly addressing the growing problem of organized retail crime across the nation.
This bill would:
Grant law enforcement the ability to investigate and prosecute those involved in organized retail crime, increasing the likelihood of bringing criminals to justice. Contribute to a safer working environment for retail employees.
Provide enhanced safety while shopping, without having to cover the added expense of shoplifters.
Provide each of us with the chance to participate in a nationwide initiative to tackle this problem, reassuring unity in both enforcement and penalties.
It’s time that organized retail crime be seen as a more severe offense! The people committing these crimes have to be held responsible.
Please back this legislation to protect your district and those who live in it – as well as our larger economy–and inform me of your position on this legislation.
